Qi Gong Training & Medical Qi Gong Program
Qi Gong is a traditional Chinese healing practice that integrates movement, breathing, meditation, and intention to cultivate and regulate the body’s vital energy, known as Qi. At Colorado Chinese Medicine University (CCMU), students receive professional Qi Gong training and Medical Qi Gong education as an essential component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) studies.
Our program emphasizes both personal cultivation and clinical application, preparing students to apply Qi Gong as a therapeutic modality for health maintenance, disease prevention, and holistic healing.
What Is Qi Gong?
Qi Gong (气功) is a centuries-old system of health practices rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoist philosophy, and martial arts traditions. It combines:
-
Gentle physical movements
-
Breath regulation
-
Mental focus and meditation
-
Energy cultivation techniques
Through consistent practice, Qi Gong helps regulate the flow of Qi throughout the body, enhancing physical vitality, emotional balance, and mental clarity.
What Is Medical Qi Gong?
Medical Qi Gong is a clinical application of Qi Gong specifically used for therapeutic and medical purposes. It is considered one of the core branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine, alongside acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Medical Qi Gong includes:
-
Therapeutic exercises for disease prevention and recovery
-
Energy-based healing techniques
-
Clinical protocols for patient treatment
-
Meditative practices for practitioner self-regulation
At CCMU, students learn how to integrate Medical Qi Gong into clinical practice, allowing them to support patients through non-invasive, holistic healing methods.

Qi Gong Training at CCMU
Instructor: Joe Wollen Daoshi
In this course, students will learn Qi on an experimental level. Students will discover many aspects of this primal power through traditional coordinated movement. How to sense, increase, manipulate, and locate Qi, as well as finding its source, are some of the areas explored in this class. This class will introduce the concepts of energy terms, the principle of energy flowing, and techniques of practices. The class will also introduce the medical application of Qi Gong including strengthening acupuncture meridians and internal organs. The theory of Qi Gong practice is based on Taiji, Yin and Yang, Five Elements and I Ching.
