Why Chinese Medicine Practitioners Need to Publish – and How to Get Started Easily!
The scientific world is finally opening its doors to Chinese medicine. Major journals,
research centers, and funding agencies are now actively seeking high-quality evidence on acupuncture, herbs, and other East Asian medical approaches. Yet much of this research is still being led by biomedical teams who often only see a narrow slice of what our medicine can actually do.
If the published literature is going to reflect the real scope and effectiveness of Chinese medicine, then front-line practitioners must be at the table—as authors, not just as “alternative providers” in someone else’s study.
We’re excited to announce an incredible opportunity for our faculty, staff, and students!
This winter, the RAND REACH Center is offering a 23-week Case Reports Course led by
Dr. Joshua Goldenberg and Dr. Heather Zwickey—two leading experts in clinical research and publication.
This hands-on course provides step-by-step guidance through the entire case report process, from idea development to a submission-ready manuscript. Participants will gain valuable skills in clinical writing, research design, and publication strategy—ideal preparation for anyone looking to publish their first paper or strengthen their academic portfolio.
One of the most powerful and accessible ways to begin is through clinical case reports.
Well-designed case reports:
- Capture the nuance of pattern diagnosis and individualized treatment
- Document outcomes that matter to patients
- Generate hypotheses for larger studies
- Make the rich, lived reality of Chinese medicine visible to the broader scientific community
- This Free course is offered asynchronously for all faculty and students (students need a faculty advisor)
- Study at your own pace, and help create the future of this wonderful medicine!
To support this, we are pleased to share a new 23-week Case Reports course offered through the RAND REACH Center, taught by Joshua Goldenberg, ND, and Heather Zwickey, PhD.
Beginning January, 2026, this virtual, hands-on course will guide you step-by-step from choosing a case, to following CARE guidelines, to navigating ethics/IRB, to submitting a publication-ready manuscript.
If you’ve ever thought, “Someone should publish this case,” that someone is you.
And in addition, RAND REACH has agreements from several journals that those that complete all the course requirements will get published!
