Colorado Chinese Medicine University Celebrates 35th Anniversary, Receives Governor’s Congratulations
In 2025, Colorado Chinese Medicine University (CCMU) proudly marks its 35th anniversary — a significant milestone in its mission to preserve and promote Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the United States. Since its founding in 1990, the university has been dedicated to cultivating highly skilled acupuncture and herbal medicine practitioners, serving community health, and advancing academic exchange and clinical practice in TCM nationwide.
Over the past three and a half decades, CCMU has grown from a small college into one of the most influential TCM institutions in the country. The university offers master’s, doctoral, and advanced doctoral-level programs, actively engages in classical Chinese medicine research, develops international academic collaborations, and provides high-quality, affordable clinical services to the public.
Notably, CCMU’s Advanced Doctorate in Classical Chinese Medicine is the first of its kind globally to center its curriculum on the concept of “Qi,” integrating diagnosis, treatment, and prevention through a combined approach of acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, and music therapy. This program elevates clinical practice beyond a symptom-based approach, embodying the classical ideal of “treating without asking the illness, with the goal of restoring balance,” resulting in greater precision, effectiveness, and scope in patient care.
In recognition of this milestone, Colorado Governor Jared Polis sent a congratulatory letter to CCMU. He wrote:
“As the Governor of Colorado, it gives me great pleasure to extend my sincere congratulations on the 35th anniversary of Colorado Chinese Medicine University. Since its founding in 1989, Colorado Chinese Medicine University has been the oldest institution in Colorado dedicated to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The university has played an important role in advancing education and training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine across the state. Under your leadership, the university continues to contribute to integrative health education and to preparing skilled practitioners who serve communities throughout Colorado. Again, congratulations on this important milestone. Thank you for your dedication to education and the advancement of Traditional Chinese Medicine in our state.”
The 35th anniversary is both a moment to honor past achievements and a starting point for future growth. Looking ahead, CCMU will continue to uphold its educational philosophy of “Preserving the Classics, Integrating Innovation,” deepen academic research, expand international cooperation, and further promote TCM worldwide to bring health and hope to more patients.
As part of this celebration, CCMU will host a special 35th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The event will feature alumni gatherings, cultural performances, and hands-on TCM experiences. Alumni, students, faculty, and community friends are warmly invited to join this historic occasion.
