Parago Jones Retires from Colorado Chinese Medicine University®
After an illustrious career, Parago Jones, L.Ac., is retiring from his esteemed position as the Academic Dean at Colorado Chinese Medicine University® (CCMU). Jones, who has been an integral part of the institution since 2000, leaves behind a legacy of dedication, innovation, and excellence in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
A Distinguished Career in Chinese Medicine
Parago Jones embarked on his journey in TCM as a graduate of the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CSTCM) in 1998. His passion and commitment to the field led him to specialize in neo-classical Japanese Meridian Therapy acupuncture and moxibustion. Jones’s expertise was further honed through extensive studies with highly regarded clinicians and teachers, including the nationally known nutritionist Dr. Michael Gaeta, and more recently, Tung-style acupuncture expert Susan Johnson, L.Ac.
Leadership and Contributions
As Clinic Supervisor (2000-2009), Clinic Director (2007-2019), Faculty (2008-2019), and Academic Dean (2019-2024) at CSTCM, Parago played a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of countless students. His leadership extended beyond clinical practice; he was deeply involved in curriculum development, serving on the Academic Leadership Team Committee and overseeing the Continuing Education program. His dedication to education was evident in his decade-long tenure teaching various subjects at CSTCM and his role as a certified instructor of Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers & First Aid through the American Heart Association for ten years.
Parago’s commitment to excellence in acupuncture practice is highlighted by his nearly decade-long instruction of the national CCAOM Clean Needle Technique (CNT) course, a critical training for all licensed acupuncturists in the United States. He also led continuing education workshops in specialized areas of Japanese-style moxibustion and acupuncture techniques, sharing his deep knowledge and experience with both new and seasoned practitioners.
Research and Advocacy
Parago’s pursuit of knowledge has been a hallmark of his career. He is consistently engaged in researching the latest developments in acupuncture studies, mind/body medicine, healing, and meditation. This dedication to continuous learning is reflected in his active participation in professional development workshops and seminars.
Beyond his professional achievements, Parago is a strong advocate of the Weston A. Price Foundation, which is dedicated to restoring nutrient-dense foods to the human diet through education, research, and activism. This advocacy aligns with his holistic approach to health and wellness, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in overall well-being.
A Lasting Legacy
Parago Jones’s retirement marks the end of an era for CCMU. His contributions to the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as an educator, administrator, and a practitioner, have left an indelible mark on the institution and the broader community. His private practice in Denver, conducted at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stands as a testament to his enduring commitment to his patients and the principles of TCM.
As he steps into retirement, Parago leaves behind a thriving academic and clinical community that has greatly benefited from his expertise, leadership, and passion. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of TCM practitioners and educators.
While we will miss Parago’s presence on campus, he will remain an integral part of our community, working on projects for CCMU.
Parago leaves the academic department in the capable hands of our Admin Director, Dr. Ed Lamadrid, DAOM, L.Ac, who brings decades of experience as an acupuncturist and administrator.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Parago Jones for his years of service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
