About the Colorado Chinese Medicine University®
Colorado Chinese Medicine University® (CCMU), originally founded in 1990 as the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CSTCM), has a long-standing history in professional education in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
In 2023, following more than three decades of institutional development, the Board of Directors authorized a name change to Colorado Chinese Medicine University®. This change reflects the institution’s evolution from a single-focus college into a multi-degree, accredited institution offering graduate and postgraduate education in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (AHM).
Today, CCMU offers five professional degree programs: the Master of Acupuncture (MAc), Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAcCHM), Doctor of Acupuncture (DAc), Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM), and the Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM), an advanced practice doctoral degree.
The MAc, MAcCHM, DAc, and DAcCHM are professional graduate degrees that prepare students to sit for national board examinations required for licensure as Licensed Acupuncturists in the United States. The DAc and DAcCHM are also offered as completion doctoral degrees for qualified master’s-level graduates seeking a first professional doctorate.
The DAOM is a postgraduate advanced practice degree accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM). Admission to the DAOM is limited to licensed practitioners who have completed a professional AHM degree. The program is designed to support advanced clinical development through structured academic study, specialized clinical training, and scholarly inquiry.
CCMU maintains institutional infrastructure to support its educational mission, including multiple academic departments, clinical training facilities, and an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to oversee research activities conducted under its auspices.
Throughout its history, CCMU has remained committed to professional education in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, supporting the development of competent practitioners and contributing to the advancement of the AHM profession through education, clinical training, and responsible scholarly activity.
